CrossFit L1

Why CrossFit?

I choose to do CrossFit because it challenges me everyday. It challenges my body physically and my mind mentally. The strength I’ve gained both mentally and physically carry over into my everyday life. I admire that this sport is for everyone! From Kids, to teens, expecting moms, the elderly…anyone willing to get out of their comfort zone and get to work. I also really love the community aspect of CrossFit. Everyone around us is on this journey to a healthier, fitter version of themselves and because we all share the passion of CrossFit (health and fitness), we better help others and motivate them to be the best version of themselves in and OUT of the gym.

I have been an athlete since I was a kid. I played basketball and volleyball and did boxing for a short period of time. As an adult, prior to my move to Albuquerque 4 years ago I was on a co-ed volleyball team, women’s basketball team and even tried co-ed softball. Before I found CrossFit I was a member at Fitness 1 and 9Rounds Kickboxing in LC. I did that for a couple years and when I felt that I needed more of a challenge, I was introduced to CrossFit and haven’t looked back since. I have a competitive nature about me and CrossFit allows me to feed that itch just a little bit.

Worst movement: Does the bike count as a movement?! I don’t have very many movements in CrossFit that I don’t enjoy doing but if I absolutely have to choose it would have to be any type of jerk…push or split jerk. Maybe even throw in front squats because for some reason I dread these movements.

Best workout: Being completely honest, I don’t have a favorite workout. I do have favorite movements and those include: Squat cleans, Squat snatch, pullups, handstand push ups, sand bag over the shoulder, box jump overs and double unders.

When not at BCCF: You can catch me in the kitchen cooking dinner and doing the dishes! Haha! Aside from that I spend most of my spare time with my kids, my husband, and working on my studies…oh and talking about CrossFit! Haha!

New Coach advise: Being that I am a new coach myself (almost 1 year) my best advise is: Be coachable, take corrective criticism, be bold and be confident in what you know and if you don’t know something, ask! You started off passionate, something led you to become a CrossFit coach…stay tapped into that no matter what goes on around you.

What athletes can expect from Coach Sam: You can expect me to bring the best energy to every class I coach. I will purpose to continue growing in my knowledge as a CrossFit coach, to teach you everything I know so that you can become a better athlete. I will show up ready to coach you, challenge you, push you and cheer  you on through some gnarly WOD’s.
