Jon:
How I was introduced to CrossFit: I first tried Crossfit in Afghanistan. My XO and I would find crossfit workouts online, replace the movements we were terrible at (Snatches/Overhead Squats), and do the workouts in the 100+ degree heat. After I got back, I didn’t do crossfit for about 2 ½ years, until Megan decided she wanted to try it about a year ago. Now I’m hooked.
If I never had to do this one exercise ever again, I would be stoked: When I win the Crossfit Open, I’m using my Executive Power to outlaw Double-Unders
If I had to makeup my own WOD, it would be: 1-mile Then 2-Rounds of 29 Deadlifts, 84 bar-over-burpees1-mile
Tell us a little about yourself (family, job, hobbies, etc): I’m married, we have no kids, 5 animals (2-dogs/3-cats), and sometimes I’m a bit of a jokester. My hobbies include crossfit, headbands, and posting countless photos of our dogs on social media (Wiener Wednesday). Sports are cool to watch on TV, but I regularly fall asleep on the couch around 8:30pm.
My proudest accomplishment is (doesn’t have to be CF related): When I was in 6th Grade, I came in 2nd place in my school’s Spelling Bee. So either that, or my deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
My favorite cheat meal/food is: A big pile of Nachos
What is your favorite song to workout to?: Any song used in a “Rocky” montage.
What I love about Bear Canyon Crossfit: The People. When people say crossfit is a cult, I tell them “yeah, but it’s a friendly cult”. The people at Bear Canyon are some of the most supportive, motivating, and interesting people I have ever met.
Your “swole mate”: She’s (Megan)pretty much the greatest thing to ever happen to me. She’s smart, beautiful, funny, and the progress she’s made over the last year in doing crossfit and barbell makes me extremely proud of her. I’m also slightly terrified that if I ever had to go out of town for a prolonged period of time, she’d adopt more animals and fill our house with dogs and cats.

Megan:
How I was introduced to CrossFit: I’d heard about crossfit but had never gave it a chance. Ivonne Lobo and Falisha Plake kept telling me about BCCF and how great it was and I eventually gave in one day and have been hooked ever since!
If I never had to do this one exercise ever again: Hmm…Burpee Box Jumps I would be stoked: If I had to makeup my own WOD, it would be: AMRAP: 15 Wallballs, 15 power cleans or 10 Cleans, 15 TTB or anything with squats really.
Tell us a little about yourself (family, job, hobbies, etc) : I was born and raised in Albuquerque. I’ve been married to Jon for 8 years! I’m a Staff Accountant at the Gap Corporate Office and am a crazy animal lover. I LOVE going to Barbell and crossfit. And of course I love all of my furbabies and love spending time with them (and Jon too)
My proudest accomplishment is (doesn’t have to be CF related): Being married to Jon for 8 years ha ha! Also competing in the Oly comps and steppin out of my comfort zone
My favorite cheat meal/food is: A giant pile of Nachos covered in Queso and chile!
What is your favorite song to workout to?: “HUMBLE”-Kendrick Lamar (But I’ll jam to just about anything)
What I love about Bear Canyon Crossfit: The people! All the BCCF peeps are amazing and I love them.
Your “swole mate”: My swole mate is my better half. He’s probably the kindest, most caring, funniest person I know. He’s always so positive and patient and knows how to bring me back down to earth on my worst days. He also accepts the fact that I’m eventually going to bring home more animals and that we’re gonna have to buy a bigger house so I can save animals all the time!
