Establishing a healthy relationship with food is the most important dietary change you can make.
A personalized and well thought out philosophy on food allows you to withstand the ever changing diet culture because you know how to apply any fad diet or new food information to YOUR needs, based on YOUR goals. It helps you to know what you stand for, so YOU are in control of your eating patterns.
Guilt free. 100% food freedom. You are in charge of you.
Food choices can become about fueling and working with your body, not about restricting your intake because you don’t trust your body.
A Food Philosophy is a set of principles that guide your eating choices based on both your mental and physical health. Most people haven’t spent energy establishing this relationship with food, so by default an internal dialogue about food is created without your input. Perceptions of food are formed by your upbringing, culture, medical history, media, etc. Developing an intentional food philosophy that aligns with your present day goals and ambitions can bring structure and purpose to your eating choices. It creates a mindset that balances discipline and permission, intention and grace.
STEP ONE: Identify your current food philosophy. Imagine you and I are sitting face to face and I ask, “How would you describe your eating patterns? What do you hope to get out of your food choices? What are the intentions behind the food you decide to eat?”
STEP TWO: I am a big believer that your body is your life instrument. It’s purpose is to provide connection to this world. Considering what season of life you are in, what is it that you want to use your instrument for? What is one purpose you would like to use your life instrument for RIGHT NOW? It could be something as simple as having enough life left in you by the end of the day to walk your fur baby. It could be having enough energy to get on the floor and play with your kids.
Take a minute to write down 3 things you want to start using your life instrument for RIGHT NOW:

Now let’s do a makeover…
We eat for FUEL and we eat for FUN. Sometimes the food choices we make serve both functions. Food can be delish and nutrient packed. Sometimes food choices don’t overlap in function. We eat just for fuel, as in raw, uncooked kale (does anyone really like raw kale?) or just for fun as in the case with donuts. Both fuel and fun serve a valid and important role in our eating style. If you are extreme with your eating patterns, inevitably the pendulum will swing back the other way. Who wants to stay in the eat-healthy-’til-I-hate-healthy-food-and-binge-on-sweets cycle? NOT ME.
