How were you first introduced to CrossFit? I think I was watching the CrossFit games back in 2012 or 2013 and just remembering how crazy I thought the workouts were and how awed I was by what they were doing. I didn’t try CrossFit until I moved to Tulsa, OK and there was a box about a block away from my apartment.

How long have you been coaching CrossFit and what do you like the most about it? 2 years (already)! My favorite part is the community and being able to interact with members and help people achieving new goals.

Why did you decide to start coaching? I decided to get my L1 because CrossFit is the first exercise program I have ever found myself craving. I wanted to be as immersed in it as I could!

.Tell us a little about yourself (family, job, hobbies, etc): I have an awesome wife, Heather, as well as two cats. I have worked for Oakley for the past 7 years, where I currently manage the store in Coronado Center. I am going to school right now (again), and should be done by next summer. I don’t get a lot of free time, but I enjoy CrossFit, reading, and playing the occasional video game.

My favorite cheat/ indulgence meal food is? Donuts. I have a very hard time turning them down or limiting myself to just 1…or 2….or 3.

What do you love about Bear Canyon CrossFit? The community is amazing. From the first time I stepped into the gym I felt welcomed and like I belonged.

What would you tell a friend who wanted to try CrossFit? To just get out there and try it. It looks intimidating, but anyone can do it and anyone can be successful with good coaches and the right scaling options

As a CrossFit coach, what would you tell a new athlete is the most important thing to focus on in the beginning?
Take a foundations class. There are so many movements that we do in CrossFit that you never do if you come from a traditional gym. Getting comfortable with a barbell and knowing your limits are so important to be safe and get strong!

How has BCCF helped you during the Covid?
I definitely have needed workouts during this crazy time. I know the gym is the biggest stress reliever for me, and I am amazed at how stressed I have been throughout all this. The gym has helped to keep me level headed.
